Arizona Public Service (APS): generator, battery backup & CPAP rules
Service area: Much of Arizona including parts of metro Phoenix (Glendale, Peoria, Scottsdale), Prescott, Flagstaff and Yuma
Meter collar transfer switches
Accepted
Allowed with conditions under APS Interconnection Requirements (Rev. 10.0): UL 414 certified, installed by APS or a licensed contractor, self-contained single-phase 120/240 V panel up to 200 A, with a permit. APS has stated it currently allows two types: ConnectDER and the Tesla Backup Switch. Not allowed on panels over 200 A, on poles, or where an adapter already exists.
Generator and battery disconnect requirements
Grid-connected generation and storage need an APS-approved visible, lockable disconnect next to the service entrance. Standby sources on an open-transition transfer switch (UL 1008) or a true double-throw manual switch do not need a separate utility disconnect.
